Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward
-The mountain of spinach dip I have sitting in my fridge leftover from a get-together last night. It looks like rabbit puke, but throwing all of this away would be a crime...
-Being in the hospital elevator and having a patient tell me he's single. I'm sorry, but what disease are we currently treating you for again?..
-An 11-year-old telling me a very 11-year-old joke, and trying my best to give the biggest I-have-no-idea-what-that-even-means laugh.
-Somebody using "brouhaha" in a conversation.
-While playing with my phone, Jude accidentally emailed "b 1x 89r" to Geico. They emailed him back saying that they would love to help him out, but that they have no idea what language he's speaking.
-Accidentally using the term "wham bam" to describe an efficient way to get visiting teaching done.
-That moment when you realize you just went through an entire bag of microwaved popcorn.
-Went Jude's one-and-only toy falls on the ground in the grocery store and you don't know if picking it up and pacifying him by handing it back is worth 500 dirty stares.
Awesome
-Easter's this Sunday! Can't wait to get the little guy a dashing little bow tie--and maybe even a little white fluffy tail..shhhh
-Jude and I have been able to spend the whole week (and the rest of the week too!) together without mommy going to work or clinicals!
-I'm halfway through with my BSN program! I graduate a year from now with my bachelors of science in nursing (finallllllyyyy).
-It's the cutest thing, if you shrug your shoulders and ask Jude where daddy is, he smiles and looks at Adam!
-Any day now my little boy will stop being a chicken and start walking! The kid has been on his feet cruising since 6 months and is just realizing now that his legs weren't meant for more than just mommy to squeeze ;).
-Today is also Mommy and Jude day. I've decided to take my little man out on our first official (after an entire Jude-lifetime of unofficial) Mommy-and-Jude date!

Sending you all warm thoughts as Spring is blossoming all around us :)

Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

hmmm..I want to say this week has been really busy.
It's actually the opposite--this week has been pretty uneventful.
Aside from a night of girl-time with the always lovely Jessica Goodwin, and our broken thermostat which has made uncovering my neck place me on the verge of tears every morning, I've got to say, it's been a little boring.
But, there's always something awkward to write about. And here it is:

Awkward:
-The moment you bite into something you thought was something else, but totally wasn't, and then realizing that it just had to also be disgusting, and hoping no one's watching while you grimace as drool simultaneously escapes out of the corners of your mouth. Hey Jude, can I borrow your bib?
-Sending a text to someone who is not my husband and having auto-correct change my message from "Just a sec" to "Just a sex." Couldn't have sent "sec" with an asterisk any sooner.
-Complementing Jude's pediatrician on his ever-fabulous hair and having him explain in detail how he uses lotion to style his rather Gaston-like quaff.
-Being in conversation with someone who looks my age as they confess, "Yeah, I mean.. come on.. it's not like I'm 22 and would do something like that...", and trying really, really hard not to look 23.
-Noticing our electric bill to be awfully high, and when calling the electric company having them ask, "Wow, you know I'm seeing a spike in your use on Thursdays. What are you guys doing on Thursdays?" Oh, you know--bringing in about 5 extra refrigerators, each full of different flavors of cheesecake, turning up the heat and plugging in a massage chair while I sit on my butt all day eating until I fall asleep. Come on man, seriously, how the heck am I supposed to know?
-Being in a small room with a person with a very loud, unnecessarily exaggerated laugh. Come on, lady, it wasn't that funny. And no one wants to see your fillings.
-Having Adam comment in a room full of friends, "Oh, yeah I've been doing that since I was a feces." Good one, love.
- Waking up with Jude in the middle of us and Adam thanking me for getting up to get him in the middle of the night. Uhhh..hunny? That wasn't me. That was you. And then having us sit for half an hour until we both confess that we have no idea how Jude ended up in bed with us.
Awesome:
-I've recently changed my Pandora station to Carla Bruni and now listen to French music all day. It makes me feel exotic. And sexy.
-I just found a new favorite herbal tea blend that I am currently sipping on. mmmmm I feel even more European...
-My mom AND sisters are coming out for Jude's first birthday!--and staying for a little while too!
-I have successfully cooked a full-out meal every single day this week!--and every new recipe is a hit!
-Thanks to our friends who lent us their space heater, everyone in this house got a full night of sleep last night!
-sX1Q1W2zas12222222--Jude says hi!

Happy Thursday! The weekend is almost here, loves!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

hmmmm...I love doing these...:P
Awkward:
-Changing Jude's poopy diaper and noticing mid-wipe that I got some baby pudding on my fingers. Should I let this stuff ride it out until I'm done, or stop midway and de-poop?
-That moment when someone you've met all of once walks into the room with obvious deformities all over their head and you wonder if your relationship is on a high enough level to ask them what happened to their face. And then because you waited too long to say "hi", all-the-while giving them a perplexingly dumb look, they finally utter, "I fell, okay?"
-Trying to keep a straight face for the millionth time when asking a patient if they've pooped or not. And going the extra mile and asking them to describe it. Uh huh, I see. Ok, and when was your last bowel movement? And if you could, please describe it to me.
-Walking out of the grocery store and noticing that while loading them into the car, a tall, plaid-wearing, skeezy-looking guy has just changed his trajectory a couple of subtle degrees towards us, all the while giving us a creepy, I'm-about-to-do-something-crazy look. We didn't know if we should confront him, or just pick up the pace and speed away.
-Having squeaky nursing shoes and wondering if every time they make an especially suspicious squawk if I need to clarify where the source came from. Just keep looking forward...
Awesome:
-Adam started his new job this week! Yes, I never explained this: Adam got a new job in a little place called Lake Oswego, Oregon. It's about 30 minutes south of us and is a beautiful little town right next to the Portland LDS temple. So we're moving. Sometime. I don't know when. Thinking about it just stresses me out. So moving on...
-Jude still thinks I'm hilarious.
-Jude has made it through all the different kinds of canned vegetables and loves all of them!
-Jude laughs harder and harder every day.
-Adam told me I could buy new pairs of jeans to replace my old ones. Ok, I made that up. But do you think I pressured him into letting me do it anyway? Mission accomplished
-Now that Jude knows his way around the house, once he realizes I'm not in the room anymore, he makes it his mission to come and find me. And when he finally does, he squeezes his eyes shut, gets a long, pencil thin grin, and squeals real loud in celebration of our triumphant reunion.
-JUDE AND I ARE GOING TO NYC EARLY NEXT MONTH TO VISIT MY FAMILY!!! It was kind of a last minute decision, but Southwest was having a sale and Jude is still free to fly, so I hopped on it. Christmas time in NYC? That's my favorite--the Nutcracker, Radio City, Rockefeller Center, FAO Schwartz, Macy's and Tiffany's window displays, Serendipity...I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it. Breath, breath, breath....
-It's the best time of the year, right?! I'm loving life right now--the leaves are beautiful, the air is crisp, Jude is just brilliant--and he has lots of cute hats--pumpkin everything is in full season, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner. Life is good right now--and even though I'm busy doing clinical hours to finish up my BSN and working shifts here and there, I'm having a great time with my little family.
I hope you're all enjoying this beautiful time of year wherever you are!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Haven't done this in awhile..hold on tight:
Awkward:
-The skills test for renewing my CPR certification. There's no need to ask, "Hey, hey, are you okay??!!" to a plastic human, chopped in half. I think that's as far gone as it gets.
-Being asked a totally unanticipated question during a job interview and completely blanking out. "Umm..sorry..I just lost my train of thought....just give me a minute (or 5).
-The awkward meals we've eaten the past couple of nights due to our empty fridge. Ok...we can have corn on the cob and scrambled eggs for dinner or refried beans and blackberries.
-Casually running my fingers through my hair while deciding on which sandwich to order and simultaneously pulling out a chunk of hair...and feeling everyone's eyes watch where I'm going to put it. This post-partum hair loss thing is getting a little out of control.
-Changing Jude's dirty shirt before leaving the house, only to discover while out that the new shirt was also dirty. I promise my kid isn't homeless...
-This picture my brother posted on Facebook of my 11-year old membership into a club my sister and I and two friends founded: the S-club 4 (remember S-club 7?? We weren't very original). Yeah, ok, get over it: I was chubby and only shopped in the Old Navy boy's section. I also think that Willy Wonka got his hair inspiration from me. You're welcome you creepy man. (p.s. Why am I the secretary?? I was at least a year older than all of these girls. Way to aim high, 11 yr old self)

Awesome:
-I got a job! I'm working on-call for an assisted living facility!..No experience my ace.
-Jude is almost crawling! Seriously, I think in a week he'll have it down...and everything else in my house.
-Jude is also eating his rice cereal like a pro! He opens his mouth real big, snaps his face forward, and gobbles it right off the spoon. I can't wait to see how he handles green beans...
-My mom is coming in two weeks for a visit! We're going to eat lots of food, go shopping, see movies, have late-night tea and cookies--it's going to be awesome!
-I bought a massive seedless watermelon from Walmart yesterday for $3.50! This is all I'm going to be eating for the next little while...
-I got assigned to do my clinical hours this fall in the progressive care unit at Southwest! I'm STOKED! I can't believe I've been out of the hospital as long as I have.
-Lastly, I thought I'd give a shout-out to my hot husband for losing 10 lbs! What a hard worker...I thought you might crack while withdrawing from Oreos, but you stuck with it. LOVE YOU.

A&A

Awkwards and Awesomes from our trip back east
Awkward:
-Mother nature deciding I needed my monthly gift during my long day traveling to PA--while I of course was wearing white pants. Thank goodness I will never see any of those people again.
-Seeing an old boyfriend from high school I haven't talked to since high school. Oh...uh...hi! You're still finishing up school? Cool. I'm married with a baby.
-The current residents of Philadelphia.
-When the waitresses of cocktail hour didn't bring around the same AMAZING hors d'œuvres twice = new Hors d'œuvres circulating every minutes = eating every-single one offered (mind you, there were probably over 20), and actually seeking out those I haven't yet been offered. Fatty. I wasn't alone...
-Husband's and my lack of dance moves at the wedding. It's all good--we shook our uncoordinated tail feathers and you know they liked it.
-Having the Catholic priest tell me my eyes are pretty during the rehearsal run-through. I don't know why this was so awkward. I guess I was just expecting him to tell me I'm in need of confessional, or something.
-Ordering a diet coke at the open bar. "Aren't you Mormon?" "Why, yes I am. Thanks for making me feel like a sinner. Jerk."
-Jogging over to the workout stations on the running trail and realizing I'm far too soft to jump, hop, pull-up, or leg-lift just about anything. To all you jogging witnesses: You may have been bystanders, but you weren't innocent bystanders.
-Buying a dozen ridiculously delicious donuts and almost finishing them off on the car ride home. OK, my brother helped. Kind of.
AWESOME:
-Jude is sleeping all night and then some ALL ALONE in his Pack n' Play! Sweet mother of all
-While holding his hands, Jude can walk across the floor. NO JOKE.
-The other day I put Jude down for tummy time and no more than a minute later he rolled over on his back. My little chunk can move!
-The plethora of authentic food I ate: Philly cheesesteaks, Quaker donuts, NY pizza, and oh-so-much more.
-Jude did so awesome on all of our plane rides.
-During said plane rides, Jude discovered the timeless art of flirting. All the girls that sat next to us were in love with him my the end of the flights.
-Also, all the amazing people on the flights that were so helpful and considerate,
-Southwest airlines is having killer deals on flights! SOOO my mom is coming for a visit in September!
-Like I mentioned last post, I got to spend some quality time with my brother, and also got to visit with some friends from back way! --so fun!

Thursdays Are Awkward..and Awesome

Before writing this, I realized that Thursdays really are the awkward turtle of the week. I mean, what an uneventful day of the week, right? It's like when Adam comes home on a Thursday I just think, "well, it's Thursday. Guess we're just gunna ride this one out and wait till the weekend."
Moving forward...
Awkward:
-Being the lady in Goodwill with a screaming child.
-Feeding said child in the passenger seat of my car (with a bottle, mind you) and watching people walk by curiously wondering if they can sneak a peak.
-Changing a killer diaper at someone else's house and helplessly wondering where to put it until I eventually position it carefully in my diaper bag. Hopefully no one will think the trailing scent behind me as I carry this bag around is me.
-The mutual look of "I'm kind of unsure about this" Adam and I exchanged after biting into "no sugar-added" ice cream sandwiches.
-Having a McDonald's employee poke their head outside the drive thru window because I'm taking too long to pull forward. Hey, my wallet is in the diaper bag in the back seat, k?
-People talking too loud in public. No one really needed to know your boyfriend's shorts are too short.
-Being hungry + shaky and, therefore, unable to critically think. Period. 8+6=....uhh...
Awesome:
-We just got the second part of our tax return in the mail!
-It's supposed to be in the 80s this weekend! FINALLY!
-After all the crappy eating I did over last weekend I haven't gained a pound. You know what that means? ..uhh YEAH: eating like crap again this weekend.
-Adam and I just started watching Traffic Light. It's HILARIOUS. Yay new show!
-Jude's eyelashes went from blonde to dark brown. Now his eyes are freaking gorgeous. Back off, ladies.
-Adam and I are finally going to Carlo's Bakery next week! Aside from diners and family, I find no other reason to go to Jersey.
-Someone compared me to Zoe Deschanel. Why, thank you!
-Jude finds me absolutely hysterical.
-I'm a college graduate, wife, and mother at the tender age of 22. I feel very accomplished.

I know it's super-duper late, but what's been awkward and/or awesome for you lately?

Awkward and Awesome Thursday {Part 1}

I love Sydney from The Daybook. I remember coming across her blog and being like, "Ok, she's skinny and she's modest. No skinny girl is ever modest unless she's Mormon." And that she was. And then I recognized some areas where she took pictures and realized that she was a student at BYU-Idaho just like me! Adam totally knows her from design classes. Or at least that's what he says. Anyway, she's got a weekly segment called Awkward and Awesome Thursday and I thought I'd join in.
Awkward
-Little man woke up sucking on my shirt where my milk-filled boobs used to be.
-Husband's morning goodbye kisses while I'm still in bed. "I'm pretty sure she hasn't brushed her teeth yet. Should I risk it and go for the lips, or play it safe and bypass to the cheek?"
-When the little dude wets the bed in the middle of the night. "Ummmm...how bout I just change you and we don't tell Daddy."
-When a very big, creepy man stops me on my way out of Winco. "Miss? MISS?!...uh, yeah?...Wanna hear a joke?...No sir, no I don't."
-The fact that Adam and I are sharing a razor. You didn't know that hunny, did you?
-When husband showers at night and realizes after getting dressed that the blinds in our room were never shut. Well HELLO there!
-When a lady holding a baby smaller than Jude says, "Oh, I remember when she was that small." ..."Uh, how old is she?"..."4 months." --like I said, the kid likes his milk.
-Jude's loud blowouts in church. "I swear it wasn't me."
-When a stranger asks to hold my child. "Uh..sure..what are you gunna do with him?"
-Adam and I doing P90X. "Umm..hun?...seeing as we don't have a pull-up bar I'm going to have to improvise with your arms..."
-During little man's bath I tried to sit him up to wash his back. He instead insisted on completely standing up. "...okaayy...or that..."
Awesome
-Adam and I made sploosh last night. I will make a post about this amazing stuff later.
-We also snuggled and watched the Disney animated version of Robyn Hood.
-We're going to Philadelphia in a few weeks! I am getting the nastiest cheesesteak ever.
-Jude-bug let me take a long shower this morning while he played on the floor AND he's sleeping at this very moment in his swing. Guess who's waking up to a fresh, warm bottle?
-I start clinical at Southwest Medical Center this fall!
-I'm 10 lbs. from my pre-preggo weight. Don't know what I'm gunna do about the overly-stretched skin tho...
-Pizza date night this Saturday. Family date night, that is.
-Adam's letting me get new pumps for my friend's wedding. He scored big time.
-Jude now imitates sounds we make. It's hilarious. Videos to come.
-Adam also gets off early on Friday and has all Monday off too = looonnggg family weekend!

What makes you awkward and awesome?
