Hey Jude,
Mom has two 12 hour clinical shifts at the hospital this weekend. Her shifts start at 6:30AM and go until 7PM. When she leaves in the morning you're asleep, and she's been afraid that by the time she comes home you'll be asleep--meaning that, by the end of these two days, I wouldn't have seen you for over 48 hours--which makes mommy very sad.
I got home around 7:30PM tonight, tired and sleepy, and assuming that you had fallen asleep awhile ago. But to my surprise, as I opened the door, you were awake, standing up, and squealing, laughing, and smiling at me! It warmed my heart.
We played, laughed, and cuddled until you went to sleep.
I missed you, buddy. Should we stay up late again tomorrow night?
I think so.

Hey Jude
Hey Jude,
Sometimes when we play together, you like to run away and
pretend you don't need mommy anymore.
But she always drags you back and doesn't let you forget that
mommy's full of all kinds of fun games.
You can run away, little boy, but momma will always be there
to pull you right back into her arms.

Hello, Is It Me You're Looking For?
For the past couple of weeks we've noticed that when we would say hi to Jude or call his name he would utter the same, "ehh". and we're realizing that this is his way of saying, "hi." I caught a little of it on video, but the best is when he pops up from the coffee table and says "Hee!" I swear that's him saying, "Hey."
Most talented kid in the world?
You know it.
Most talented kid in the world that is also 7 months today?
I might cry while watching all of Jude's home videos and eating a whole sleeve of Oreos.
Also, last night our wonderful friends/neighbors/common church-goers showed up at our door with a freshly baked pumpkin pie and ice cream to share with us.
Do they win the best neighbors EVER award?
Well let's think about it:
Pumpkin pie = fall magic and always on my cravings list
Ice cream = always. forever.
Coming over unannounced at 9PM, which is my normal post-bedtime snack time = messengers from the holy land of sweet, sweet confections.
We love them. And their pie.

Lately...from the new toy
a) Mommy and Jude after church after he got changed into the always ghetto extra set of clothes at the bottom of the diaper bag in case he wets through his cute church clothes--so obviously, he wet through his cute church clothes.
b. Seeing Jude for the first time in 24 hours. The longest we've ever gone, bud. Darn those 12 hour clinical shifts.
c. Daddy and Jude went to a cool antique store while I was away all Saturday.
d. Adam and I finally had another date night--sans the child--and saw Captain America at the cheap theatre. $6 AND we got a free movie ticket with our rewards card. Guess we know what we're doing NEXT date night too...
e. Here's how the conversation went:
Britney: Let's take a picture.
Adam: OK.
Britney: Ok, ready?
Adam: Yeah.
..right before the picture is taken..
Adam: toots.
Sometimes he make things so difficult.
e. It was chilly in our house (for reals, I'm totally obsessed with our
electric bill)--plus I just wanted him to wear his cute hat :)
f. When Jude was just a little newborn he HAY.TED. being naked. Now he can't get enough of it. And neither can we :)

Girl's Night
My darling friend Clara Cowie's husband had a night shift at work last night and so we thought we'd keep her and her little Lydia company by having a girl's night!
Our night's agenda featured that of any 13-year-old slumber party: hideous face masks, mani's/pedi's, Clueless, and a table full of junk food...although one perk of being a grownup is that our romantic conversations are on a totally different level than talking about the boy that Carly was currently holding hands with and what exactly he meant by "catch ya later." Let me tell you, 13 and 14 year-old girls--you just WAIT. Girl's night gets better when you're older ;)
Favorite movie quotes:
Cher: Christian, what do you think of Amber?
Christian: Hagsville.
Cher: Would you call me selfish?
Dionne: No, not to your face.
Cher's dad: Anything happens to my daughter, I got a .45 and a shovel, I doubt anybody would miss you.
Cher: He does dress better than I do, what would I bring to the relationship?
Cher: If it's a concussion, you have to keep her conscious, okay? Ask her questions.
Elton: What's seven times seven?
Cher: Stuff she knows.

I think mine made me look like Jason. Good thing Halloween's coming up, huh? |
"Hello girls, welcome to my party." |
And this is just a random pic of Jude with a cracker. There was no way I could totally leave him out. |

Birthday Weekend
This birthday weekend has been amazing...not only because it's lasted literally all weekend, but also because I got to do all of my favorite things, with my favorite people, and with my favorite new toy. I started off yesterday with a brand new teaset from my lover, then picked up by Mom Stevens with hot chocolate and donuts on our way to get manicures, go shopping--lots of shopping--pumpkin patching, and then finishing the day off with carving pumpkins and eating my favorite pizza with friends.
Awesome.
Today, we had dinner at Mom and Dad Stevens' (grilled salmon, rice pilaf, zucchini with mozzarella, and balsamic tomatoes---aannnnddd chocolate tuxedo cake). Lisa suprised me with my very own tea ball AND a sugar claw/grabber/thingy that she inherited from her mom. It was so special! And I felt special--thanks to all of you for your birthday wishes and kind words. You really made me feel so loved! xoxo
Can it please be fall year-round? I honestly can't get enough of it.

Happy iPhone Eve
Late last night while Adam was finishing up some work and I was, well, you know, on Pinterest, Adam turned to me and whispered in a majestic, 8-year-old-about-to-get-a-Furby, voice "It's almost iPhone eve."
Adam and I (mostly Adam) have been waiting for a long, long time for the day we could both get iPhones and they come in the mail tomorrow!
Be prepared for even more massive video and picture overload.
I. am. stoked.
I can't wait to say, "Siri: Where's the closest donut shop?"

Just Wanted to Say Hi
Jude's climbing and standing on everything now--you name it, he tries to stand up on it. From the TV stand, to the coffee table, to my leg, to his own head, Jude-bug doesn't want to do anything but stand. I have to admit, it's kind of exhausting. Am I a bad mom for not getting up to caudal him every time he falls on his face?
Probably.
Hey, I'm not an olympic athlete ok?--I can't be expected to have the endurance to get up from the couch and put my pudding cup down every two seconds, can I?
One of my favorite things is when I'm on the couch doing homework and all of a sudden Jude disappears from my view in front of the coffee table, only to reappear 5 seconds later on his feet.
Take a look:
I swear that kid's got abs of steel and superman shoulder muscles. He must take after his mom ;)

Cannon Beach
Yesterday we took a day trip with our good friends, Phil, Jessica, and their cute little boy, James, to Cannon Beach. Every time I visit the Oregon coast I have this inherent desire to put on a sweat shirt, hop on a bike, and find some treasure...
We toured the town, got fish and chips for lunch, ate a little too much fudge and salt water taffy, and finished the day off by taking a walk on the beautiful beach and flying Phil's kite. The babies especially loved the sound of the crashing waves and cool ocean breeze and both slept most of the walk.
What a fun trip! Phil and Jessica always have great ideas for us to tag-along with.
p.s. It's my birthday on Saturday.
My little church primary kids sang to me with my face poking out of a hole in a cardboard cupcake. They made me feel special :)
